Implementing The Math Map in Challenge A
Why did CC choose to implement MM at the Challenge A level ?
The Math Map is a sequence of 390 booklets that cover the same 30 concepts over 13 years. Earlier years emphasize the grammar and language of mathematics along with calculation using simple numbers. As students progress through the books, the complexity of exercises grows, and the calculations use increasingly broad sets of numbers.
Because The Math Map is truly classical in its approach, it is fundamentally different to math texts and curricula currently available to homeschool families. Leigh Bortins recognized that the best resource to support families in the transition to a classical curriculum is the Classical Conversations Tutor, who is well versed in the classical model and has been equipped to lead students through The Math Map. Leigh decided to launch The Math Map with The Math Map Complex at the Challenge A level to take advantage of the pathways already established to support Tutors as they lead The Math Map in community and support families as they use The Math Map at home.
Challenge A Tutors will receive multiple layers of support in preparation for the academic year, provided by The Math Map team.
1-Tutors and parents both currently have access to The Math Map Naturals in CC Connected.
2-Leigh Bortins has and will host book clubs on LeighBortins.com discussing The Math Map, available for live attendance or recorded for those unable to join at the scheduled time.
3-Ongoing support is available through the CC Connected forums, moderated by The Math Map Curriculum Assistants in CC Connected.
4-Live Q and As for Challenge A Tutors has begun with Kirsty Gilpin, co-creators of The Math Map.
5-Additionally, Challenge A Tutors will have access to weekly equipping videos in CC Connected.
With all of these resources, the Challenge A Tutors will be well-equipped to support our families. 😉
