Measuring the Success of The Math Map

What data was used to measure the success of the new curriculum?

How do you define success? While we have not conducted testing, families have shared that their students have experienced significant gains in test scores after using The Math Map. The goals of the authors are threefold - to help families know God through mathematics, to help families work toward fluency in the language of mathematics, and to apply the classical skills of learning to mathematics. Overwhelmingly, feedback has been full of testimonies of families who have changed their perspective on mathematics and have learned to look for God through the (sometimes hidden) mathematics around them. The pilot tutors continue to share first hand accounts of their mathematical literacy developed through The Math Map and evidence seen in class of students likewise developing a solid math vocabulary and ability to read mathematical notation. Finally, the curriculum is laid out in such a way as to encourage the use of the classical skills of learning. Again, tutors have shared the seminar discussions that they have had as students apply the skills in class to identify grammar and build their Memoria and then ask good questions to build their understanding.  Based on the goals of the authors and the feedback from pilot tutors and families, The Math Map has already been very successful.
