Math Questions-Absolute Value and Magnitude

Could you help me understand the difference between absolute value and magnitude? The symbols and the definitions seem the same to me.

Absolute value defines a function/"operation" that returns the magnitude of a number.

Magnitude is a more general term that refers to the size, extent, or quantity of something. We can notate this using the absolute value symbol, which indicates that we should return the magnitude of the argument.

Essentially magnitude is the characteristic and absolute value is the "operation"/function/notation that tells us magnitude.
